NUTRITION MONTH CELEBRATION

-

BENNY C. MANALANG

Last month was the Nutrition month celebration. For this coming month, September, the event that will take place will be the Intramurals. From there, schools will choose the players that can represent them for each sports categor y.

During this time of sports fest where the physical strength of students is being tested, there are times when accidents, even deaths, are unavoidable. Just recently, a news about the death of a certain elementary pupil while on a try out circulated, leaving school administrators and teacher-coaches anxious. This type of occurrence paves way to going back to the basics when handling this kind of situation. The first thing we need to do is to check the medical history of pupils.

It is a good thing that schools now take partnership with public hospitals and government clinics for the checkup of athletes. From there, students who are not able will be disqualified from the team. But to avoid unfortunate events like that of what was mentioned above, checkups should start during the time of the try out.

Intramurals, sports fest, and athletic meets are included in the curriculum because it is not only the goal of the Department of Education to produce learner who are academic excellent, but also to develop their skills, talents, and physical capabilities.
