EMPOWERING LEADERSHIP THROUGH SCHOOL HEADS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM (SHDP)
NELSON B. BONAOBRA
What makes up a great and proficient leader? As the cliché goes “There is no single recipe of being a leader”. In my perspective this is a spot on, considering different ideas, learning and exerting efforts to be acquainted with and acquire the right techniques of being a leader.
Last November 2017, I was part of the School Heads Development Program (SHDP): Foundation Course which focused on the 3 modules: Instructional, Organizational and Exemplar Leadership.
Indeed, this training is commendable and very essential for it entails different topics that broadened my understanding to the different principles in educational management and leadership competencies.
Aside from that the objectives of the training is to epitomize the roles, responsibilities and accountabilities of school heads in their respective schools and to improve the quality of education through continuous improvement.
The training was held in the different places around Region III and was facilitated by competent speakers who shared their knowledge, expertise and delivered the topics in a substantial way. Most of them guided, informed and gave us a clear understanding in the aspects of school management.
The training provided professional standards and competencies to make us to become efficient and effective school heads; because we are mandated to set clear goals to attain the mission, visions and core values of the Department of Education. Likewise, to strengthen the projects-activities & programs (PAP’s) of the school and to nurture leadership, managerial, communication and interpersonal skills.
