Sometimes, we wonder if we can still inculcate the love for reading in this digital age. Children are fond of using gadgets every now and then. If mothers want their children to be quiet, they will give them cell phones or tablets. As a teacher and a mother at the same time, let us not forget the benefits we can get from reading. If your child is in his kindergart­en or Grade I, it is better to give our 30 minutes to our child before he sleeps. Read a simple story for him. In this simple way, the more you read the more knowledge is absorbed by him. Reading books ensures that your child is exposed to vocabulary on different topics, which means he hears words or phrases which he may not hear in his everyday life. It also exercises his brain and enhances his concentrat­ion. By consistent­ly reading to your child every day, your child will learn to concentrat­e and sit still for longer period of time.

Reading together encourages a thirst for knowledge. It also develops your child’s imaginatio­n, creativity and empathy. With so much technology these days, it is difficult not to get caught up in all the hype of it. T.V. video games, smart phones and applicatio­ns that are popular among children. However, reading a good book that your child is interested in can be entertaini­ng. Reading together is helpful in creating a bond between you and your child. The developmen­t of your children’s love for reading in this digital age lies on your hands my dear parents. Let us include it among the activities we spend during our quality time with our children.
