HARI President and CEO Ma. Fe Perez-Agudo shared that the event is a testament to the company’s steadfast vision to enhance infrastructure, modernize public transport, reduce carbon footprint, and bolster the country’s reputation as the investor’s destination of choice in Southeast Asia.
Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade, for his part, expressed his gratitude to Hyundai, for its worthy initiative of contributing to the nation’s progress and increasing mobility through world-class and innovative yet sustainable CV solutions. He then highlighted that he also acknowledges Hyundai’s commitment to support the government’s Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP), a program launched by the DOTr in 2017, with the goal of making the country’s public transportation system efficient and environmentally friendly by 2020.
“Thank you for presenting me today a unit or what you call the Hyundai Modern Jeep, that is supportive of the modernization program of the government. I hope that in this occasion, our fellow from various cooperatives and federations understand and appreciate that the units they have can be married with the financial package the government is offering,” he said during the event’s kick off held Tuesday.
“I would also like to take advantage of this platform today to encourage our jeepney drivers from all over to country, to keep in mind to make a living without disturbing our nation’s green environment. It is time to stop emitting fumes that destroy the surroundings and affect the people. It is high time that we prioritize the safety of the riding public and most importantly, the next generation,” he concluded.
It can be noted that Hyundai aims to field its first fleet of modern jeepneys to the Philippine roads by the first half of 2019.
