Mayor Sara lauds Bataan for Pawikan preser­va­tion

MORONG, Bataan — Pres­i­den­tial daugh­ter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Car­pio lauded Bataan for con­tin­u­ously pre­serv­ing ma­rine tur­tles.

In her mes­sage dur­ing Sun­day’s Pawikan Fes­ti­val, she com­mended Gov­er­nor Al­bert Raymond Gar­cia for the ini­tia­tives and projects that pro­mote and pre­serve the en­vi­ron­ment.

She also urged Bataeños to keep on pro­tect­ing ma­rine tur­tles and make sure the sea crea­tures will con­tinue to re­pro­duce.

Duterte and Gar­cia re­leased about 80 ma­rine tur­tle hatch­lings to­gether with other of­fi­cials present dur­ing the fes­tiv­ity.

Ac­tiv­i­ties in the whole day event in­clude walk for a cause, trade fair, vis­ual ex­hibit cre­ative fo­rum, and en­vi­ron­ment fair.

Mean­while, stu­dents and lo­cal tourists par­tic­i­pated in var­i­ous com­pe­ti­tions on sand sculp­ture, quiz bee, pad­dle paint­ing, dance and pho­tog­ra­phy.

The Pawikan Fes­ti­val aims to pre­serve the en­dan­gered species of ma­rine tur­tles in the coun­try and in­ten­sify pub­lic aware­ness on pro­tect­ing the ecosys­tem.

The an­nual event is or­ga­nized by the pro­vin­cial gov­ern­ment of Bataan in part­ner­ship with the Bataan Tourism Coun­cil Foun­da­tion Inc., mu­nic­i­pal gov­ern­ment of Morong, and Ban­tay Pawikan Inc.
