ROLE OF TELEVISION IN THE FIELD OF EDUCATION
NARDA T. AGUILAR
Viewing is now the fifth skill which came through technology and needs to be developed through students. And it can only be taught through the use of technology like Television.
Television has been given considerable importance as a source and a tool of teaching.
The best teachers believe that even a perfect lesson plan won’t be enough for students to learn if they are not engaged. It is very important to make them always excited to learn to keep them actively involved in classroom activities that stimulate thinking, and encourage them interaction and support collaboration.
Televisions in the classrooms are of great help to augment teaching. Today’s educators bring new life to the classroom by integrating television with technology to create a more engaged classroom.
Furthermore, use of televisions in the classroom can allow multiple teaching approaches. It is a fact that not all students learn the same way. According to psychologist Howard Gardner who introduced the concept of Multiple Intelligences, a theory that states people have at least seven diverse intelligences that work together. And so teachers should teach in different formats which can be through text, video, music, art, activity, spoken word et cetera. TVs in the classrooms ideally support this, allowing students to receive and interact with information in a variety of ways that best suits their needs for learning.
Getting kids excited to learn is the first step of a successful lesson. TVs provide teachers tools to make the learning experience more relevant, interesting and engaging.
