PORAC— The Municipal Government of Porac presented Planas High School officials here with a resolution honoring the achievements of the said school after the Department of Education (DepEd) recognized it as best implementer for 2018 Brigada Eskwela.

Officials of the said school were presented copies of the resolution at the flag-raising yesterday attended by councilors Mark Valencia and Ludy Muli yesterday.

The award aims to acknowledge and advocate best practices in mobilizing the community and the private sector in the annual Brigada Eskw el a.

In the Brigada Eskwela program, a school taps its faculty and staff, parents, neighboring barangays, government offices, private companies and individuals in cleaning and sprucing up classrooms several days before classes start.

Vice-Mayor Dexter David said that the award proves the vibrant community relations of the said schools and how sectors like government and the private community work hand in hand in helping local schools.

David said that the award should inspire more schools to further their efforts in mobilizing their local communities in helping out not just with school needs but also to address issues in the education of the young.

Also known as the National Schools Maintenance Week, the annual Brigada campaign runs weeks before the opening of classes nationwide with the aim of engaging “all education stakeholders to contribute their time, effort and resources in ensuring that public school facilities are prepared in time for the forthcoming school opening.” The contest also held annually seeks to provide incentives for schools that perform best in the campaign.

The search criteria included scope of work or the completion of repair and maintenance work on school improvement plan; diverse volunteer participation or the involvement of private sector, community and government agencies; conversion of generated resources into worthy projects; and the alignment of the maintenance effort to the current Brigada theme.
