GOD’S COFFEE BEANS

- KEREN M. DELOS SANTOS

“The flavor that is stirred in a hot water goes along with the aroma that fills the air.”

We teachers are considered to be the front liners in the educational system. We are the one who can touch the hands of our learners, smile at them, make them laugh, motivate and inspire them. We are the one who have a day to day interaction with them. Dwelling upon our chosen endeavor, it is more like a vocation, for we are touching numerous lives, shaped in different kinds of environment and having diverse personality. The society expects us to make our pupils learn, considering their own pace of acquiring knowledge, and we are doing our best for the future of the generation that we are handling.

In our learners’ eyes we are some kind of a second parent, a superhero, a friend and sometimes they even assimilate us with some kind of celebrity. But what are we really? We play different kinds of roles every single day, in our homes and in school. We are taking huge responsibilities on our shoulders. But you know what is best about us? We can still smile, laugh, listen to our learners’ stories and enjoy everything that we are doing. It really takes a big heart to be a teacher, knowing all the works and roles that we have to undergo every single day. Without being aware of it, we do not consider teaching as a job but it is a part of our lives. That is why we tend to put all our efforts and all the love to the career that we have chosen.

There was this one morning I am preparing myself a cup of coffee, as I take it in a spoon I tend to realize, the coffee has gone through series of extraction and processes just to make it powdered and flavorful. Just to make it convenient and good one. Same as with us teachers, God chose and hand-picked each one of us, made us undergo series of extraction of trainings and challenges, just to make us efficient and effective. As the consumers, our learners needed us, we are to give the best flavor in enlightening their minds with the golden knowledge that we impart on them. Just like how the coffee combines with the water, we are influencing our learners, sharing them the heavenly taste of knowledge and showing them the aromatic morals and values that they needed in realizing their dreams in life.

Indeed, teachers are coffee beans, hand-picked and chosen by God to serve, spread insightful facts and influence the youth with values and let them experience the aroma of success.
