-

MEXICO, Pampanga— The philreca partylist group visited over the weekend the Pampanga I Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Pelco I) main office and conducted a dialogue with the power distribution firm’s management and employees.

The said political group, organized by the Philippine Rural Electric Cooperative Association, an organization of 121 electric cooperatives all over the country, was accredited by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) thus entitling it to join this year’s forthcoming midterm election.

Presley De Jesus, a native of Apalit town and first nominee of the said partylist, discussed the need to protect electric cooperatives from being taken over by private investors who aims for bigger profits which results into higher electricity rates. He likewise stressed the advantages of an electric cooperative providing electricity to consumers rather than private entities.

The said group also discussed their advocacies of protecting the rights and interests of electricity consumers against the power industry’s threats including privatization efforts.

Meanwhile, Pelco I’s board of directors welcomed the said group while appreciating the efforts of Philreca in advocating for the welfare of memberconsumers of electric cooperatives.

Pelco I Board President Engr. Edgardo Sagum and Pelco I General Manager Engr. Loliano Allas recognized the thrusts of political groups aiming for the protection of electric cooperatives against the challenges faced by the electrification ind u st r y.
