A CALL FOR SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL CURRICULUM REVIEW
The
Department of Education recognizes the value of continuous improvement. This is clearly stipulated in its vision statement, “As a learner- centered public institution, the Department of Education continuously improves itself to better serve its stakeholders.”
The Senior High School Program of the DepEd has been implemented for three years since it was enacted into law in 2013. The first batch of its graduates landed on the following curriculum exits namely: higher education, middle skills development, entrepreneurship and employment. To further offer quality products and services to the community stakeholders, the spirit of continuous improvement shall be given a greater emphasis most especially in the implementation of curriculum. This is highly evident through the provision of monitoring and evaluation based on the feedbacks gathered from the community leaders, partner institutions, educational leaders, practitioners, parents and the senior high school students. Hence, listening to voice of the stakeholders is very crucial to realize the commitment of the department in its vision statement.
It is in this light, the Schools Division Office through the Curriculum Implementation Division (CID) is mandated to review the implementation of the Senior High Program by assessing the good practices and opportunities for improvement of the schools. The CID is explicitly tasked for updating and upgrading the knowledge and skills of the school heads and focal persons who are directly responsible to the attainment of the strategic directions of this program. Hence, SHS learners will be more equipped with the content knowledge and the 21st century skills needed to face the demands and challenges of the region in relation to their program of choice. As a result, SHS learners will be more ready in facing the reality of life which is one of the terminal goals of the program: Kolehiyo, Negosyo, at Trabaho.
