SINGLE STATUS AMONG TEACHERS

-

MA. CRISTINA F. FRANCIA

The professional life of teachers is never a boring thing. The roller coaster of events inside the classroom contribute to a sure active story telling in the old age. One writer even mentioned that being a teacher is as easy, relaxing and comfortable as being in a public park but only called as the Jurassic Park.

Teaching is not easy. There are many teachers who even had a hard time looking for a life partner. It is said that the fate of a person happens by choice or by chance. There would hardly be a teacher who at his/ her young years in the service would already come into a conviction of a single life forever for the sake of his/ her profession. Many single teachers become single by chance.

Being single is not a comfortable thing especially whenever the teacher is blowing his/ her candles on the birthday cake that expires the days on the calendar. During Valentine’s Day when lovers are on streets holding hands together while sharing their sweetest laughs, being a single teacher seem like a curse. No young single teacher is surely content for being single! This even becomes more dramatic when many of the college friends have already tied the knots and started posting the priceless smiles of their precious kids.

But despite all these, there still remains the beauty for being a single teacher. Since love, by instinct, is something that needs to be shared, a single teacher has much to give for his/ her students, colleagues, and work— but it should not be enough. Love and affection is an instinct. It is something within everybody ever since. It is a force that is constantly struggling within one’s self to come out and be shared with others.

Being a single teacher would entail a lot of advantages. However, a single teacher should keep in mind that he/she is not in the profession forever. There will always be a time when a teacher is just too tired that he/ she has nowhere to go but return to his/ her family. Above all, all teachers must learn to invest to their families.

No single teacher should ever accept that teaching is life. There is more to life outside the profession! Find time to mingle with others! Be kind to all! Respect yourself. There is no point of climbing the ladder of promotion if you do not have anybody to dedicate it. Awards and recognitions would remain mere pieces of papers and ceramics in a quiet bedroom. Never be content for being single. Build your own family— it’s one step nearer the lifetime happiness and contentment.
