Santiago unfazed by former mayors’ ‘support’ for Caluag
CITY
OF SAN FERNANDO - Reelectionist Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago of this capital city said on Monday that he is unfazed by the alleged backing of two former city mayors to mayoralty race opponent Association of Barangay CaptainsPresident Vilma Caluag.
MABALACAT CITY — The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has lauded the support of the local government unit to the Manila Bay Clean-Up, Rehabilitation and Preservation Program.
In his letter to Mabalacat City Mayor Cris Garbo, DILG Secretary Eduardo M. Ano stated that the city government passed the compliance assesment conducted by the agency under the bay cleanup program.
Recently, Caluag claimed that she has the support of former Third District Representative and Mayor Oscar Rodriguez and former Mayor Rey B. Aquino on her mayoralty bid against Santiago.
Echoing the statement of fellow Liberal Party stalwart Vice-President Leni Robredo, Santiago said that endorsement of political candidates, although boosting one’s candidacy, does not necessarily dictate the results of the elections.
“The people are the ones who will choose. It does not necessarily mean that if you are endorsed by somebody, you will automatically win in the elections. Fernandinos are better than that. They know who to vote. They know the deserving ones,” Santiago said.
Santiago, meanwhile, said that he respects the decision of Rodriguez and Aquino on their choice of candidate to support.
“They have the right to choose the candidate they want to support and as a candidate, I respect and will respect their decision, whatever or whoever it is,” he said.
