Making the right choices

Sun.Star Pampanga - - TOPSTORIES! -

IN JUST A WHILE, we will have our mid-term elections on May 13, 2019. We are now barraged by ads in television, radio and print plus social media.

By this time, we should be perfectly wise and discerning, resolved not to commit several errors in our choices.

From the crop of reelectionists, we can choose those who have delivered, so to speak, and thus performed well for the welfare of our people.

Names like Senators Villar and Grace Poe easily register in our consciousness as among those very deserving of our votes. Also, Senator Sonny Angara who has churned out several relevant bills. Ditto with Senator Bam Aquino and JV Ejercito who are both prolific in legislative work. Much credit to JV Ejercito for the Universal Health Care Act which will benefit all of us.

There is no doubt about the capability, efficiency and competence of Senators Cynthia Villar and Grace Poe. Senator Cynthia, chair of the Senate committee on Agriculture, has done well in espousing agriculture concerns. Likewise, Senator Grace, as chair of the Senate committee on Public Transport and Utilities, has conducted honest-to-goodness hearings and consultations about transport and utilities issues. Both honorable women have churned out legislations for the public good and welfare, no doubt about that.

On the local front, one candidate for Angeles City councilor is worth voting for in the May elections. An accomplished writer and media person in good standing is Jose Aubrey “Jay” Pelayo IV and is worth investing for our children’s future and definitely a good choice to occupy a seat in the Sangguniang Panlungsod.

In Mabalacat City, there is growing support for Nino “RS” delos Reyes, son of businessman Ricardo delos Reyes. Nino is aspiring for a seat in the local legislative council.

He generates support from the city’s transport group, the young and women sectors. The city’s senior citizens also favor Nino’s occupying a seat as City Councilor.

Councilor EDDIE SOTTO, who chairs the SP committees on Senior Citizens Affairs and PWDs, Transport and Social Welfare and Public Works will run for his third and last term as councilor of Mabalacat City. According to him, the council has passed amendments as to the age of eligibility to receive incentives for seniors. On staggered bases, the age has been reduced to 85, from 90 years old, to receive the city’s benefits and then on to 95 till 100 years when the amount of P100,000 has been fully received by the seniors.

He has also maintained dialogue with his Angeles City counterpart, Councilor Amos Rivera, on the matter of allowing into said city tricycle drivers with passengers without being cited for violation of the On Line policy of Angeles City.

Mayor Crisostomo “Cris” C. Garbo’s slate for councilors is composed of: Krizzanel “Wyn Wyn” Garbo, Jun Castro, Nino “RS” delos Reyes, Rannie de Leon, Liza Pineda, Rey Pineda and Ralph “Basti” David.

Mayor Cris, from the looks of things and his crowd-gathering strength will win hands down in the May elections!
