Despite election watchlist status: Mayor optimistic of peaceful polls
APALIT - Mayor Peter Nucom yesterday expressed con fidence on the peaceful conduct of the forthcoming local elections despite the town being placed under the election watchlist.

The activity gathered candidates for all local elected positions for a unity walk, and signing of peace covenant and integrity pledge which seek the commitment of the local bets in embarking in a truthful and peaceful polls this coming May 2019.
“A few days from now, we will officially start the campaign period and this peace covenant signing aims to remind all candidates as well as their supporters that we have rules and regulations to follow,” said Comelec Officer Hilda Dizon.
Chief Inspector Nestor Bulatao, this town’s chief of police, for his part, assured the commitment of the Masantol police in strictly monitoring the communities to ensure the safety and security of the publ i c.
“We want to assure Masantoleños that the local police is always on alert status to ensure quick response for any untoward incidents, and inclined in maintaining peace and order of the general public,” he noted.
Mayor Danilo Guintu, who is running unopposed for his third term, also encouraged his fellow candidates to engage in clean and fair campaign activities by presenting their platforms of government during their sorties.
“Let us give Masantoleños the kind of election they deserve: peaceful, honest and fair. Let us always keep in mind that election is not for us candidates but for our constituents and our hometown,” he said.
