Village chief’s bro nabbed for guns

SAN SIMON - A 45-year-old man over the weekend was arrested by local authorities here for alleged violation of the nationwide election gun ban set by the Commission on Elections.

Chief Inspector Elias Tait, this town’s chief of police, identified the suspect as Leopoldo Flores Maglanque, brother of Barangay San Miguel Chairwoman Gemma Punsalan and a resident of the said village.

Tait said that elements of San Simon police and 2nd Pampanga Mobile Force Company implemented a search warrant with no. 19-0398(m) issued by Judge Ma. Josephine Rosario-Mercado against the suspect.

The implementation of the said search warrant resulted to the discovery and confiscation of various firearms from Maglanque including one .22 caliber revolver loaded with five ammunitions, a caliber .22 rifle and 12 live ammunitions for caliber .22, said Tait.

“This is part of the national campaign to eliminate the threat in the coming elections and one of which is the threat of loose firearms and upon learning the case of Mr. Maglanque, the San Simon police delivered immediate solution including his arrest,” he sai d.

Maglanque is facing charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Illegal Possession of Firearms.

Tait, meanwhile, also warned criminals that the local police will not stop going after individuals who intend to cause chaos in the coming local elections and disturb peace and order in the town.

“I am warning anybody who has plans to disturb the elections, especially here in San Simon, to stop and abandon their plans because I will not stop until I put you behind bars,” he sai d.
