TEACHERS AS VITAL COGS IN WOMEN EMPOWERMENT

- JERAMY A. MANALOTO

INDEED, women school teachers are an important part in the public service machinery. In a democracy like the Philippines, women in general are empowered to take roles in governance and social activities.

It is no longer surprising to see women pilots maning the most expensive aircraft as in the United States, women engineers and architects designing and building the most iconic of structures around the world and getting paid immense salaries for the effort.

Times have indeed changed for women empowerment. Gone are the days when they played second fiddle to men leaders. Now, it is no longer a rarity to see women leading governments like Britain's prime minister Theresa May and, before her, the feisty Margaret Thatcher.

In the Philippines, we have had Presidents Corazon C. Aquino and Gloria Macapagal Arroyo who have proven that they were at par, if not better, than their male counterparts.

Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio and Vice President Leni Robredo are competent women leaders in their respective turf.

The above examples of women empowerment strengthens the role of teachers in their work as educators of the youth.

Like their female counterparts in government and in other fields, teachers have proven that they are very competent in their assigned tasks and therefore contribute immensely to nation-building.

Their contribution to the country's improvement cannot be overemphasized. Suffice it to say that their teaching prowess and skills, if properly utilized, can be timely tapped.

Teachers are a vital cog in the drive for more women empowerment.

Like most other women engaged in other professions, including trade, they have adequately proven their worth and their capability to measure up to the standards of their male counterparts.

Indeed, there seems to be an equality among men and women today- in trade, professions and in all socio-economic activities.
