ROLES OF A SELF-MOTIVATED TEACHER

-

MARITES G. LAYUG

Thank God for teachers who stayed in public schools despite material incentives are scares and unattractive. Not to mention the increasing volume of reports and paper works added to the profession during the sudden change of curriculum. We cannot condemn, however, those who fly abroad to serve foreign children or those who are still in our country yet they decided to give priority to their family’s poor economic situation. The number of teachers who go abroad are only rubbles of the majority who remain true and loyal to their God-given challenge to serve the youth of the Motherland. As I write this article, I can see images of men and women who stand before their classes and impart knowledge outline to develop the youth’s intellect, potential skills, and values.

Through their efforts and sacrifices, teachers have built the foundation of successful citizens in the world of politics, economics, medicine, engineering and other field of specializations. The roles and functions of teachers have been enumerated in our Philippine Constitution.

The self-motivated teacher inculcates patriotism and nationalism.

The self-motivated teacher fosters love for humanity.

The self-motivated teacher fosters respect for human rights.

The self-motivated teacher fosters appreciation of the role of national heroes in the historical development of the country.

The self-motivated teacher teaches the rights and duties of citizenship. The self-motivated teacher strengthens ethical and spiritual values.

The self-motivated teacher develops moral character and personal discipline.

The self-motivated teacher encourages critical thinking.

The self-motivated teacher broadens scientific and technological knowledge.

The self-motivated teacher promotes vocational efficiency.

Mentors are not only agents in promoting the value of hard word work and perseverance, they themselves must be good examples. No matter what, I honor and pays tribute to all teachers who despite of these trials, still fight to dispel the darkness of ignorance and the shame of mediocrity.
