DREAMS DO COME TRUE

-

DANNY V. MANUEL

When we were young, often people would ask us “What would you like to be when you grow up?” I always tell them that I wanted to become a pilot, I honestly don’t know why back then. Maybe because as a kid, I dreamt of flying up the sky, I still do actually. After many years, here I am, a teacher.

I never really saw myself teaching. It didn’t even cross my mind whenever they ask me that clichéd question. Up until now, there are moments when I feel like I do not belong in this profession. Teachers are dealing with individuals whose needs are different from each other. I am trying really hard to meet their expectations and adjust to their needs, just like what most teachers would do. I know it is my responsibility, these students are sent to school to be educated. I am happy to be a teacher, it is very fulfilling, but I always go back to my childhood dream of becoming a pilot.

As years pass by, this profession has opened a lot of opportunities and has led me to a lot of realization and deeper understanding as to why I was called to be a teacher. My students’education depends on how I handle the subject that I am teaching. It is also our responsibility to shape and mold them to become productive and helpful in every way they can. we lead them to a future where they will live a conducive life. We teachers are directing them towards their destination.

I am now thinking, being a teacher is as good as being a pilot. I may never be able to pilot a real airplane, but I serve as a pilot to my students, for they let me be their guide, along with their parents and of course our Mighty Father in their search for a better future. Being in this profession is like hitting two birds using one stone. Indeed, dreams do come true.
