BEING CREATIVE AND INNOVATIVE INSIDE THE CLASSROOM
JESSHIELA C. DATU
The Department of Education (DepEd) is challenging education leaders to continually do what they can to bring and create innovative and daring methods of teaching.
This, according to the DepEd, can bring education to all Filipino learners, who will benefit from this move.
Just recently, education leaders gathered to discuss ways to further improve the delivery of quality basic education. Gatherings like this are important, because the country needs to further improve the education sector in light of “shortcomings” pointed out by stakeholders in the past.
Nevertheless, the Department has highlighted the agency’s efforts in ensuring the realization of its programs and projects, which are all geared toward the betterment of the educational system in the country.
Likewise, a number of teachers and educators were recognized in various awards, both locally and internationally – a fact that the DepEd is truly proud of.
Most teachers have already been creating, innovating, and thinking of ways of reaching out to all Filipinos learners who need to have the basics of education. And yes, some of them were even recognized in various awards in and outside the country.
One of these is Dr. Venus Alboruto of Surigao City National High School (Surigao City, Philippines), who made it to the Top 40 finalists of the Global Teacher Prize of the Varkey Foundation.
She was recognized because of her innovative teaching methods. She identified Strategic Intervention Materials (SIMS) as an effective tool for connecting with large number of students. Her work also earned her an award from the Science Education Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-SEI) Search for Innovative Practice in Managing Large Classes.
The Global Teacher Prize, which recognizes the exceptional work that teachers do around the world, serves to underline the importance of educators and the fact that, throughout the world, their efforts deserve to be recognized and celebrated. It seeks to acknowledge the impacts of the very best teachers not only on their students but on the communities around them.
With this, the DepEd – while encouraging anew all teachers to continue bringing up innovative methods to help for the betterment of the education system in the country – underscored that the teachers’selfless efforts and strong commitment to the teaching profession are highly valued and recognized by the community, noting the various organizations which give awards to exemplary educators.
Those who are recognized as best teachers in the world are those who go the extra mile in their profession, those who reach out and serve their communities, and those who love their learners, the DepEd said.
