REVIVING ART IN IMs
LESLIE G. TIMPUG
Modern innovation takes lead in all aspect of man. What was supposed to be years are being achieved in days. Living in the 21st century made man fidget for patience. To some extent, it makes man complacent, lazy and wanting to have things in instant.
Having all these in mind, teaching is experiencing a fast drying up of ideas, creativity and man-made devices or instructional materials (IMs). A vast majority of mentors rely mostly for PowerPoint presentations made by others. Some do not want to construct their own materials that will be most befitting for their type of learners. This make teaching easier but less personal by nature. In the rule of variation an IM who was not tailored-fit to learners loosen their potency as a dose to combat intellectual poverty.
The use of control + C and control + V, rather than the traditional cut and paste in creating their IMs is a double-edged sword. Though it hasten the process and produce uniform mode in teaching, it indirectly destroy the sense of variation and accomplishment in completing a task as a teacher.
Theories in teaching are tested only in the field. One cannot gauge something if not subjected in continuous development towards perf ect i o n .
Utilize modern techniques but incorporate traditional means. The marriage of both the old and new will make teaching a worthwhile and completing task. Teaching once again utilize art in IMs.
