Com­elec: 14-M bal­lots still to be printed

OVER 14 mil­lion bal­lots are still wait­ing to be printed with just over a month be­fore the May 13 na­tional and lo­cal polls, ac­cord­ing to the Com­mis­sion on Elec­tions (Com­elec).

Com­elec spokesman James Jimenez said there are 14,093,384 out of the 63,662,481 to­tal bal­lots that have yet to be printed by the Na­tional Print­ing Of­fice (NPO).

“As of March 28, we are 77.86 per­cent com­pleted or 49,569,097 bal­lots printed al­ready,” said Jimenez.

He said two more re­gions, in­clud­ing the Na­tional Cap­i­tal Re­gion, have yet to be printed so far.

To re­call, it was back in Fe­bru­ary 9 when the print­ing of of­fi­cial bal­lots com­menced at the NPO.

The Com­elec has said it now ex­pects bal­lot print­ing to be com­pleted be­fore Holy Week be­gins on April 14.

Jimenez said the de­ploy­ment of of­fi­cial bal­lots will be­gin im­me­di­ately af­ter the com­ple­tion of pr i nt i ng.

“Ship­ping will be by the sec­ond week of April for far flung ar­eas,” said Jimenez.
