Comelec: 14-M ballots still to be printed
OVER 14 million ballots are still waiting to be printed with just over a month before the May 13 national and local polls, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said there are 14,093,384 out of the 63,662,481 total ballots that have yet to be printed by the National Printing Office (NPO).
“As of March 28, we are 77.86 percent completed or 49,569,097 ballots printed already,” said Jimenez.
He said two more regions, including the National Capital Region, have yet to be printed so far.
To recall, it was back in February 9 when the printing of official ballots commenced at the NPO.
The Comelec has said it now expects ballot printing to be completed before Holy Week begins on April 14.
Jimenez said the deployment of official ballots will begin immediately after the completion of pr i nt i ng.
“Shipping will be by the second week of April for far flung areas,” said Jimenez.
