IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN FOR SPES

Sun.Star Pampanga - - PERSPECTIVE! -

Good news for participants of this year’s Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) in Pampanga: some P13.45 million has been released by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) regional office for the implementation of SPES.

The amount represents the 40-percent government’s share for the salary of the SPES student-beneficiaries. The remaining 60 percent share will be shouldered by participating private companies and national government agencies (NGAs) and other sponsor-institutions.

The SPES is a program created under Republic Act 7323, series of 1999, as amended by Republic Act 9547 which seeks to encourage employment during summer, through incentives granted by the Department of Education and the DOLE.

SPES is an annual summer employment program that encourages students to make their vacation productive by working during summer thereby earning extra, which they can use during regular school days. The program is spearheaded by DOLE and in partnership with the DepEd.

Here in Pampanga, we are lucky that the provincial government has always been supportive if the SPES program, reason why its implementation has always been successful.

There is always close coordination and efforts between the Provincial Public Employment Services Office and major stakeholders and partner government and private agencies. This has greatly contributed to the success of the province’s SPES program.

There have been a couple of testimonies from SPES beneficiaries, who said that the SPES program is a great help especially for students who would like to gain work experience. The program, they said, also boosts the morale of the underprivileged members of soci et y.
