Sea foods is one of your best dietary choices. Low in saturated fat, many fish also contains an oil called Omega-3 which can decrease the chances of your developing blood clots in your coronary arteries.

Omega-3 is found in cold water fish, such as mackerel, sardines, and salmon. It is also contained in capsules, but think twice before you reach for fish oil in a bottle. Most studies show that capsules simply that capsules simply aren’t practical-you’d have to take large number of them to equal the amount found in serving of fish. Also, according to Peter Kwiterovich M.D. some capsules may contain impurities.

So Stick to the real thing, but watch the preparation. If you choose deepfried fish from your local fast food restaurant, you won’t be doing yourself any cholesterol-lowering favors. Try grilling or poaching instead. And if shellfish is your choice, remember that shrimps, while low in saturated fat is high in cholesterol, save it for special occasions.
