SEMINARS KEEP TEACHERS UPDATED
Maricel I. Santos
Is there really a need to attend trainings or seminars? At the back of your mind, you might answered “No.”, and you would say, “Just a waste of time.” But my dear fellow teachers, just like any other gadgets or apps, in order for them to run smoothly and perfectly, they need to be updated regularly. This also holds true with us. For us to give the quality education for our 21st century learners, we must also be updated on the latest trends and issues on the field of education. We can get these not only through pursuing our professional studies but also by attending necessary trainings.
Most of the time, we are given short answers by our learners and they find difficulty in elaborating their responses. The cause of their continued responding habits is mainly because we are throwing them questions which do not stimulate critical thinking among them. Our students have a lot of ideas which most of the times are unheard because of our manners of eliciting answers. There is an appropriate training for this.
We are now on the era where learners enjoy learning and exploring with their peers. I can attest to this through my teaching experiences. I find the glow on their faces and the sparks on their eyes every time I give them group activities either for performance outputs, motivations, practice exercises or presentations of lessons. But designing and thinking of varied collaborative tasks is not that easy. A strengthened training will help us design of appropriate and effective group activities that would enhance leadership, cooperation and discipline among our students. It will also feed us excellent group tasks ideas so that we will not give our learners tiresome and repetitive collaborative tasks.
These are just few of the many reasons why seminars are important to all teachers. Let us all not be outdated by being updated!
