Campus Journalism at work

It is exasperating to know that sometimes, journalism, in schools is not a priority for students. I gained less popularity over years. it is grasping for such a long time.

School Publication, which is now modified to Students Publication, is an essential material in every school. Student Publication amplifies the perspectives of students and at the same time improves their writing and speaking skills, and creativity. Through this, administration may know the state of the student body. Hence, they can impose necessary rules to improve the aforementioned.

The goals of campus journalism are noble and are student-centered. However, due to different constraints, campus journalism is sometimes not prioritized. For one reason, many of us think that it’s all about writing…only writing! This is a misconception that has to be removed in the system. Campus Journalism offers wide arrays of disciplines and is not limited to writing. It has writing, but not limited to this.

Campus Journalism also highlights broadcasting. This is evident because in every press conference; be it in a school setting or national one, there are competitions like Radio broadcasting and TV broadcasting. These competitions develop speaking skills, video editing prowess, sound and effects application and editing capabilities. It also boosts the confidence of an individual engaged in these activities as it allows the team to have live broadcast and/or podcast. Most importantly, these provide avenues for the students to be aware with the latest happenings in our country: making them sensitive enough and responsible at the same time.

Also, Campus Journalism is always in-trend. To explain this statement, millennials nowadays may love taking photos of different subjects, and so this is equivalent to photojournalism in campus journalism. Photojournalism will teach the journalist not only the rule of thirds and lighting but it will also unleash the creative side of an individual. It is not narrowed to nature and human subjects alone. It also tackles social issues and environmental awareness.

Campus journalism being viewed as boring is exasperating because in reality, it offers avenues not only for learning but also for being the best version of ourselves. It also promotes values that are essential in life. Most importantly, it offers a chance for us to be a productive and responsible citizens of the country.
