THE SSG EXPERIENCE OF A SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT
Raquel T. Lugtu
"People ask the difference between a leader and a boss. The leader leads and the boss drives" by Theodore Roosevelt. From this quote, we can say that there is a big difference between a leader and a boss. The leader is the one who leads and will make new leaders, on the other hand, the boss is the one who drives and sometimes claims all the honor and acknowledgment. Being a leader is not easy especially the obligations that you need to carry throughout your term. How can you make a change in your school as a student? What is the hardest part of being a leader?
The school is the second home of a student and it also helps the students to bloom their talents and skills. One of the skills of a student is leadership and it is not easy to achieve this skill because some people are not born with it, they enhance it true time and effort. As a student you can make a difference on your school by joining some clubs like science club wherein you can give awareness on how important is science in our lives and what are the benefits of this subject to us, same with the other subject but the most powerful and influential one is the Supreme Student Government (SSG) or Student Council.
SSG club or student council is the most powerful organization because if you are elected as an officer especially if you are the president you have an authority and influence to have some change in terms of the school rules and regulations and you can also make some programs or awareness that you think will help the school itself or the students. One of the most important things that an SSG president would have is to fight for the rights of a student.
Being the leader of a school is not easy because of the responsibilities that you need to carry and to have a good image that you need to maintain throughout your term. Some of the consequences of being a president are judgment by the people around you, sensitive issues like different kinds of abuse and other things that will test your leadership skills. Maintaining your good image is also part of being an SSG president because you are a role model of the students and also maintaining your academic performance is quite hard because of the responsibilities that you have.
Being a leader is not easy it will test yourself if you have the ability to influence others. It will teach you different things like time management, good decision making and being sensitive to what is happening around you and if you are capable of making a change that will benefit the others. President is not just a position it is a responsibility that rare people have but if you think you have the ability to make a change do not be afraid because trusting and loving yourself is one step of being a leader thus how can others trust and love you if you cannot do that to yourself? In the end, the choice is yours.
