Assessment Through Online

There is another prevalent concern that challenges the use of online teaching in learning. This is one of the crucial parts of teaching learning process that is usually taken for granted by some. It is the part that is responsible for monitoring and checking students' learning and progress. This article tackles about the importance of assessment and evaluation.

In this time of pandemic, Filipino educators were challenged to make learning effective using various platforms and strategies. Focuses are on the construction of learning materials whether printed or in soft copy. Modules that were being prepared nowadays have the worksheet or activity parts which will serve as quizzes as parameters for the computation of grades. Performance tasks will be done in actual and will be recorded by the parents especially for higher grade levels.

It is indispensable most especially nowadays because of the prohibition of having face to face classes. During face to face classes, assessment is already crucial to conduct and it becomes even more challenging for teacher to do assessment online.

As a Math teacher, I put much effort not only on the content of the learning materials but also on the test instructions as essential part of assessment and evaluation. These principles must not be given less consideration for it is only through assessment that we see the output which serve as parameters in gauging learner's progress.

This is a call for my co-teachers to put extra attention on assessment in this period as we prepare the modules and learning materials of our students in all academic areas. Let us not forget the importance of these principles as we face the new challenges of VUCA World where things are uncertain and unpredictable. What used to be impossible becomes possible nowadays. Take advantage of this online platform and make sure to use appropriate strategies in assessing our learners' performances.
