Multi-modal approach
Daisy M. Pangilinan
EVERYTHING will be new this school year, as we adopt the “new normal” in teaching and learning.
How will this work?
The Department of Education will be adopting a multi-modal approach in delivering education. This will ensure that the emerging needs and concerns of schools, teachers and learners will be addressed amid the COVID-19 crisis.
Now comes flexible learning: online, television, radio and printed materials will be used, depending on the capacities of schools and readiness of parents and learners to adopt such alternative measures.
DepEd has also drafted a Basic Education-Learning Continuity Plan (BE-LCP), after consultation with partner institutions and organizations.
What is the BE-LCP?
This would serve as guide of schools in the delivery of education amid the Covid19 health crisis.
The plan presents the learning modalities where blended or distance learning is a big part; schools' and parents' preparation for blended or distance learning; and preparation of required health standards if face-to-face classes would be allowed.
One important part of this plan, the DepEd said, is the review of the whole K to 12 curriculum; alignment of learning materials; various modalities of delivery; and corresponding teacher and parent/guardian training for homeschooling.
The Deped said that while there are modifications, this still adheres to the agency’s “Sulong EduKalidad” initiative.
