Lorna Q. Manalastas
Technology offers many potential opportunities to aid teaching-learning process. In these days, learning is literally not restricted on the four corners of the classroom, but it can happen on the four corners of a computer screen. More so, video materials, game-based applications, websites, and social media pages presents audio-visual learning materials that are very interesting for kids. These are just one click away at the comfort of one’s home. Learning materials were made accessible and easy to prepare through technology.
Likewise, learning instructions deviate with the use of technology, specifically internet. Learning becomes self-paced and depends much on students’ progress. Learners become even more independent and requires minimal guidance from a classroom teacher. Through this new platform, anyone can be a teacher. Teaching becomes everyone’s craft and provided new perspective for distance learning.
Distance learning make us of teleconferences applications designed as virtual classrooms to conduct learning. Computer-based distance education is the new trend or considered the millennial classroom. Tools were conceptualized and made functional to make virtual classes more interactive. Teachers were given training to handle volume of students following the new definition of e-classroom management. Classes were recorded which can be used a review material for the students before the assessment period. Learning does not require face to face interactions with the use of internet, thus, the department’s problem on classroom and facilities shortage were fortunately addressed with the rise of internet world.
