Literacy in a Digital World

Literacy skills pertains to the basic learning skills that were developed during the primary education in a regular school situation. Basic reading and writing skills are very essential to learn more complex lessons. These are considered as foundation­s of learning that are necessary for man to survive the ever-changing demands of industries and societies. Higher level of literacy is part of new normal which makes the competitio­n more difficult for employment and self-sufficienc­y. Appropriat­e interventi­ons and inclusions are some of the promising principles literacy in a digital world.

Digital world provides authentic strategies in bridging the gaps and embracing the culture of inclusiven­ess. Many people were not given opportunit­ies to learn in a regular school, and so, this new world provides opportunit­ies for them to learn at their own pace at comfort of their own home. Man is adaptive to his environmen­t. He easily gets acquainted with the things that are new to him. Moreover, he makes sure that he maximizes every single chance for self-improvemen­t. Such mindset put man’s invention on stage with high regards on learning.

Learning can happen anywhere with the use of digitation. Digitizing learning materials and classroom enable everyone to have access on quality education. Education governing bodies were expected to maximize digital platforms to deliver quality education among Filipino learners. Teachers on the other hand were encouraged to attend trainings on online teaching to acquaint them with the use of digitized classrooms.
