Teacher’s Innovations
A teacher should not only encourage learning but more importantly he should inspire and motivate students to target greater heights. He does not speak only of his mind but he communicates straight to the students’mind and heart.
With my sincere advocacies towards teaching, and the environment I had in my childhood days, my life now is anchored on the core objectives of teaching. This is where I draw my strength and courage to carry out the basic guiding principles of a teacher who equips and hones the skills of the students in the course of the learning process. To blend theory with practice explicit through the teachers’practical procedures and adaptive strategies is needed to keep the interest of the students and prepare them in the demands of the world of work.
I should be courageous enough to claim that I am now ready to face the challenges of the teaching profession. Given these 10 personal philosophies perhaps would help me realize the Department of Education - mission and vision that is capsulated in words to make Filipino learners become productive citizens of the country imbued with great ideals of respect for human rights and selfless service to humanity. I, myself, am ready to face the challenges of the teaching profession by:
1. Mastering theoretical concepts and principles of teaching, then integrate these concepts and principles into practice;
2. Innovating pedagogical devices to address the pressing academic needs of the students;
3. Learning by doing approach in teaching is good advice. Learning is said to be a reflective process, whereby the learners develop new insights and restructures in their mental process.
4. Considering the amount of reinforcement necessary for learning is relative to students’needs and abilities;
5. Applying the principle of “readiness” is related to the learners’stage of development and their previous learning;
6. Determining students’concept and beliefs about their abilities are extremely important. Teacher’s attitudes toward students influence the students’ perceptions of themselves;
7. Providing equal opportunities for meaningful and appropriate practice. Practice tasks should be varied to engage students more fully and to take advantage of different ways of learning at the same thing;
8. Providing positive feedback, realistic praise and encouragement are motivating in the teaching-learning process;
9. Adapting meta-cognition which is an advanced cognitive process whereby students acquire specific learning strategies and also sense when they are not learning or having trouble meaning, and
10.Entrusting everything to God to make the teaching and learning process successful.
To realize all these teaching philosophies, I should basically be a teacher process oriented and that I should never stop innovating to keep abreast with the fast changing demands in the field of teaching. The responsibility for engaging in learning, linking new information with existing relevant information, and facilitating the process through explicit and direct instruction are needed to effective instruction.
