INTEGRATION OF ICT IN THE TEACHING AND LEARNING PROCESS

We are in the 21st century and that makes youth more thrilled when it comes to learning. A great trend of today’s teaching is the integration of Information and communication technology. Teachers are more eager to make learning fun to the pupils now that ICT is booming. It may have advantages in teaching but also, disadvantages are seen.

It will be a burden for some who are not literate when it comes to the use of computers. . It also takes a lot of preparation time to make ICT-based materials and effectively use it. Learners may accidentally get age-inappropriate pictures and information. Too much information in which some are invalid and unreliable may also affect the learning process.

On the other hand, ICT is still considered a very helpful tool in teaching the pupils. . It adds a new dimension to the teaching, it improves the materials to be used and it varies the types and increases the quality of activities given to the learners. Gone are the days when they learn from the traditional way of delivering information. They are now motivated to learn because they get astonished with the interactive activities given. Teachers become more responsible for the ICT’s provision of avenues for discovery where they can do questioning and critical evaluation of information. Part of integrating ICT in the process is the communication. Teachers can use some activities to help learners develop their communication skills. With proper supervision, learners can express their ideas and thoughts. ICT integration can add content to the lessons and can help in facilitating not only the delivery of the lessons but also the learning process itself. ICT integration makes learning fun.

ICT can offer new ways to provide meaningful learning. Each has its own stand on the effectiveness of ICT integration. Learners of today are fond of modern technology so it can be used as a tool in making teaching and learning process effective. . ICT is part of upgrading the system of education. Embrace its usefulness and make learning happen.
