The world has changed in a blink of an eye because of the pandemic. The schools closed from the Kindergarten to colleges. In spite of the situation, the DepEd secretary states that education can’t wait, that education must go on in various possible ways while staying safe at home. The Department of Education (DepEd) announced that classes for this school year would begin on August 24, 2020. In response to the COVID 19 pandemic, teachers have needed to abruptly transition their lessons from physical set up to distance learning. There will be no physical or face to face classes. The DepEd is offering alternative learning methods that include online learning and modular methods.
Furthermore, online teaching and modular mode involves a lot of preparation and teachers now find themselves having to use method that they are not familiar with. For sure there are a lot of adjustments using the alternative learning modes. Most of the public schools adopt the modular mode while in the private schools is the online teaching. It depends on the survey gathered about their access in internet and the availability of the gadgets like android phones, tablet and laptops in their home. Teachers have to be a creative about how we can get a hotspot to a student, and how to support students who don’t have connectivity from their home.
Moreover, parents role now have the responsibility of making sure their children continue their education at home. Some are coping with a little worry, while many others are finding the task frightening, wondering how they are going to work from home to assist their children in home schooling.
In addition, school readiness for online teaching and modular mode of teaching is crucial and schools are at varying levels in this journey. While parents are worrying about the new set up of learning. Whatever it is everyone must get by up this so called “new normal”.
