Teaching in this world full of distractions made by technology is not that easy. You have to make sure that students will listen to your instructions despite the fact that they are becoming lazy because of technology. What would be the possible remedies that you, as a teacher should do to make them interested in your subject? Aren’t you bothered to the possibilities that they will not need you anymore?
We are now living in the 21ST century world where life made more accessible for the people. Imagine in just one click, all of the information that you need is already stated. We cannot deny the reality that technology is a big help to many. However, there are times that our learners are not really interested to listen while we are discussing something. Sometimes, they will say, “Ah Ma’am nabasa ko na po yan sa internet”., and it seems like they do not want to hear the next thing we will discuss. It is quite alarming that technology can offer more information than us, and that soon technology will stole and replace the role of an educators.
As teacher, it is our main duty to think of different learning strategies on how to maintain the student’s interest. We should not let the technology beat our skills as teacher. We can integrate the use of technology in our lesson for us to make the teaching and learning process more enjoyable. We can mix the use of traditional and contemporary to assure that they will acquire the knowledge that they need. However, there are cases that internet provides unreliable information to the students which they thought legitimate. We should always remember that technology is just an additional help for learning, and not the main source of learning.
Indeed, technology has changed the lives of the people, specifically the way of teaching and learning. We should not allow it destroy the eagerness of the students to learn more things from us and in school. We should not stop learning-learning is an endless process. We should always seek for more knowledge so the students will not forget that we are their educators.
