SNEER, JOLLY FACE, AND PLEASANT WORDS OF A TEACHER: TOOLS FOR A POSITIVE CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT

Way back times, teachers were seen as a terror figure in the learning area for teaching while handling sticks with thick eyeglasses and wearing long skirt. It looks like the former Ms. Tapia in “Iskul Bukul” during the early times of Tito, Vic, and Joey. Back then punishment was viewed as a necessity for pupils to easily absorb knowledge and be disciplined because during those years, it was strongly known that a pupil will learn more if they have fear in their teacher.

Some successful people shared how they mastered heir multiplication table or their grammar lessons through the teaching of their terror teachers and they thanked them for what they had gone through their lives. On the other hand, there were some who abominate them because they were not able to finish their studies due to discouragement, trauma, and fear they had experienced before. Individuals who succeeded under the suspension of terror teachers were just fewer than those who were not satisfied, but they stayed silent out of fear and respect to the teachers. They believed on what their parents fed to their young minds that learning should be gained through hardships for this will prepare them to face the obstacles in the coming years of their lives.

Pupils these days are different because they are articulate and expressive on how they feel towards others. Moreover, they dislike being offended and they are often rude towards their strict teachers. Honestly, they like teachers who are cool for they can be friends with them easily. Why not be one?

As a teacher, our aim is for the positive learning of our pupils wherein there is respect to establish good classroom management and this can be acquired if the teacher is sneering, jolly, teaching enthusiastically, and uses pleasant words. Through this, teachers can encourage their pupils to ask questions for any clarification on their lessons that are deemed unclear to them. Furthermore, this will boost the pupils’ confidence and learning ability. A happy and sneering teacher will produce learners who are confident to face life’s challenges and respect others’ rights.
