TEACHING WITH TECHNOLOGY BEYOND THE CLASSROOM WALLS
Edflor L. Castro
One of the most fascinating experiences of today’s pupils brings technology into their classroom. While technology can help pupils feel more “connected”, touching their dayto-day experiences as they able to see the topics beyond the four walls.
Today’s pupils communicate by texting, social media such as Facebook, chat, or video chat. However, they still have email accounts. Use the account as e-learning that enriches the learning experience in the classroom. Integration of technology in education is getting more enliven the daily tasks and impact on learning extends beyond the classroom walls.
By means of technology, teachers have the capacity to give instruction beyond the standard “stand and deliver” method, utilizing applications such as online videos, interactive demonstrations, class surveys and educational websites like DepEd Commons and other online platforms to have a clear communication and address multitude types of learners, auditory to visual and everything in between. Then, teaching is no longer a stable activity; technology enables us to make learning a truly interactive and demanding experience.
Like most schools today have online portals such as facebook and email account shared for both parents and pupils to foster fast communication between teachers and families. Pupils and parents can view assignments, access outside-classroom resources such as video links and sites to visit, and even submit homework to their teacher-in-charge, either through the portal or via email. In addition, safe communications could be sent privately from teacher to parents, or vice versa, helping promote a constant flow of information regarding school activities and other concerns.
It stands to reason, then, that technology extends the teaching environment beyond the four walls of the school and into pupils’ homes, providing them with instruction and direction at any time. Technology’s role in education is growing with the help of various applications used in distance learning.
