A Strong Partnership between the School and Home
Arlene David
Education is a shared responsibility between the home and school. The success of the delivery of education among learners is must be a collaborative efforts amongst the teachers, the parents and even the community and other stakeholders in general. As the saying goes. “it takes a village to educate a child” is still a fact until now. The concerted efforts with genuine compassion of the significant individuals in the lives of the youth must be continually strong to be able to appropriately and regularly give assistance/guidance to learners.
At present, in which the so called “new normal” has widely made life a little more challenging for most, education is still believed to be continued to make learners wiser and better informed of lifelong learning knowledge and wisdom. W ith the aim of DepEd to deliver education using alternative delivery modes (ADM), such as; modular learning delivery modality, Television-based Instruction, Radio-based Instruction and online learning modality, the role of parents as facilitators of learning at home, through the use of various modalities, such as, learning modules or Television/ Radio-based instruction or online modality is an essential factor to make students learn on a higher level.
The school needs the full support of the parents in guiding their children, especially the younger learners who are still known to be dependent learners. The role of parents with them as facilitators is essential. For the students in the intermediate and secondary levels is more of a guide and monitor since these groups of learners are more independent, parents just need to ensure that they are accomplishing the learning tasks given by the teachers. Everyone believes that “Home-School partnership” is the key to a major transformation among Filipino learners in terms of knowledge, wisdom and values. It really takes a village to educate a child. Hence, the partnership between the home and school plays a big role in the successful education of the learners.
It is in this trying time that this partnership must be fully realized and observed to make education most accessible, inclusive and relevant. The possibility of face-to-face instruction is almost impossible at this point in time that the COVID-19 pandemic is becomes global problem. Teachers have been spending extra miles to prepare learning kits and materials form learners. Parents have expressed full cooperation and support to the school to make relevant instruction and learning to their children. Indeed, with the strong partnership between the two most important units in the society, essential education will continue in the country. The youth continuously be prepared for their future roles as heirs of the nation.
