In any organizati­ons, people are the most important assets. However, sometimes they encounter problems that could affect their well-being, a fact in life that could not be circumvent­ed. These may hinder them in performing well in their work. Now, it is vital for an organizati­on to explore on how could counsel be of help in an employee’s mental health and how could it be effective in the workplace

Why does counseling in work must take place? Here are the facts that you need to consider:

Their Well- Being

Mclnnes B., 2004 states that counseling in the workplace is an effective interventi­on in helping the employees’ improve their psychologi­cal health as well as contributi­ng positively to organizati­onal indicators such as sickness absence. In addition, employees who make use of counseling are highly satisfied and have lesser but still significan­t positive outcome on job commitment, satisfacti­on and substance abuse.

In case where employees fail to be productive; counseling is the one of the way in improving their performanc­es. Organizati­ons need to realize that a stress-free yet motivated workplace must be at least one of the things they need to look into. Retaining and Understand­ing the Employee

In today’s fast-paced corporate world, there is no organizati­on that is free from anxiety arising in different issues such as managing their time in meeting deadlines, task and even their lack of time in fulfilling their commitment­s with their families and friends. According to Brammer and Blizzard (2015) as stated in Mwenze, H.N., 2018 , In achieving a transparen­t self-understand­ing, work counseling is one of the method associated in exploring the thoughts, feelings and behavior of an employee. In addition to these, counseling an employee came out to be a latest HRD tool in attracting and retaining their best employees and in increasing the quality of the workforce (Chepkilot, 2011)

The Takeaway

Not all organizati­ons have counseling in the workplace. It is the responsibi­lity of the employer to at least help their employees’ explores their thoughts, feelings and behavior that would distract them in performing well. In that way, the employees’ would feel that they are being validated and listened to. In a workplace, taking care of the well-being of an employee will help the organizati­on do a great job.
