CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The Department of Education (DepEd) City of San Fernando cites innovative learning modalities it will implement for learners this school year 2020-2021.

Schools Division Superintendent Imelda Macaspac said both parents and students appreciate the possibility of having safer and innovative methods to continue learning despite the COVID19 pandemic.

“The data produced by our division is very helpful in preparing our Learning Continuity Plan. We used the data well to create various programs that we offer not only to Fernandino learners but to all Filipino learners,” Macaspac said.

Among these is the FerNanDino Kids TV, which is an edutainment program for Kinder to Grade 2 students using songs, stories, games, and other activities designed for individual learners.

“We also cater to Junior and Senior High School students through the FerNanDino Teens TV. This is a program of the Pampanga High School which tackles critical contents and subjects. This will be presented in the form of webinars aired on free television so that students will no longer need gadgets and internet connection,” she added.

For Grade 3 learners, the San Fernando Elementary School conceptualized the SFESial TV, which features lessons on Filipino and Mathematics.

Aside from television-based instruction, the City of San Fernando Schools Division Office (SDO) also innovate different radio-based programs to cater to its learners.

Among these is the Fernandino Senior High Live, which will teach senior high school students about entrepreneurial skills and knowledge.

For Kinder to Grade 12 students, the SDO will also implement the “Kwentong Fernandino Kids at Teens Aral sa Radyo” which will employ creative storytelling in teaching lessons in Values Education and Social Studies.

“Part of this program is a segment entitled ‘Dear Dara’, which will discuss different phone in concerns of students so that our Guidance and Counselling Team will be able to provide advice on air,” Macaspac said.

Aside from the curricular aspect, SDO San Fernando also came up with a way to ensure the psychological wellbeing of its students, teaching, and non-teaching personnel despite distance learning.

“The city partnered with Life Risk to check on the psychological wellbeing of our students and personnel. In addition, Life Risk will also conduct webinars to address the results of our assessment,” she furthered.
