Guagua town Covid-19 cases reach 82 confirmed, 60 active

GUAGUA— Coronaviru­s cases in this town increased exponentia­lly in the last three days with total confirmed cases reaching 82 confirmed with at least 60 of which are currently act i ve.

Mayor Dante Torres said that the number of deaths have already reached seven cases with at least 19 barangays with on-going active cases. Torres had already issued orders for mandatory wearing of face masks and face shields as well as implement stricter protocols for the opening of the public market.

The barangays of San Juan Nepomuceno, Bancal and Santo Nino have all been placed in hardlockdo­wn this w eek .

Barangay San Juan Nepomuceno alone has 14 active cases while Santo Nino is the site of the cluster of outbreaks emanating from the Guagua Public Market.

Some 19 active cases trace their source infection to the Guagua Public Market.

Torres said that they are now doing doubletime work in tracing all possible close contacts. He added that the town is now looking for additional quarantine facilities to house people who are identified for isolation .

STO. TOMAS - Aside from face masks, the wearing of face shields when outside of residence is also now mandatory in this municipali­ty.

Mayor Gloria "Ninang" Ronquillo signed Executive Order No. 28 Series of 2020 which requires all persons who are in public places within the jurisdicti­on of Sto. Tomas town to wear face shield with face mask.

Improvised face shields are allowed provided that they cover and protect the whole face of the person, the EO that took effect on Monday also r ead.

It explained that wearing of face shields will further protect the person from contractin­g the coronaviru­s disease, and in turn will prevent the spread of Covid-19 in the community.

As of yesterday, the municipali­ty registered a total of 13 cases of Covid-19, in which four are active and eight have recovered.
