Psychosocial Support for Learners

-

Ever since the Pandemic has started, most of us were unease of the current situation were at in. We started to live like as if under surveillance by local government units. We are getting reported if we did not follow certain protocols and other health standards set by the agencies of our government that is involve in preventing this virus to spread. And since then we observe standards that are set by our government agency to avoid the transmission of the virus.

Our learners are also one of the greatly affected individual in this pandemic. We understand the fear that this virus can cause to our lives. Parents wouldn’t allow their children to suffer or die because of Covid-19. It is also since then that the virus starts to spread worldwide, their studies had been affected.

The schools were closed and the end of school year was suddenly stopped to make sure that the pupils will be safe from the deadly virus. Hence, the situation for our learners paved way for them to just stay at home and has no at least way to play and mingle or socialized with other kids outside their houses.

With an instance of ending the schooling soon, some learners tend to think if they will still go to their classes. If when they will continue to finish the Fourth Quarter exam? Would they still be graduating or attending recognition? Would they will just stay at home and do their schooling there? All of these are just one of the stresses that some of our learners experienced during the pandemic. And up to now some of our learners are missing classes, the face to face one, so they can see one more time their classmates or friends. But some of our learners are not going to school this S.Y. 2020 – 2021 due to their parent’s concern that they might get infected thru transmitting the virus by attending the school and their needs for such requirements or projects.

Psychosocial support should be given to our learners with the help of their parents or family members. They could start by asking how are they? How do they feel in spite of the pandemic? Are they worrying of their classes when it will resume or will it be done this school year? Helping learners to cope up with our recent situation is a challenge. For some reasons, there are people mostly like their parents that will be depress due to loss of work or etc. And in this case, parents or family members can be given Psychosocial support as well to cope up with their feelings, anxiety and other things so they could go back and live away from depression.

Right now the Department of Education is doing lots of activity using the social media that can be open for our community so they can be provided with Psychosocial support. This activity has been started since July 2020 so to give or provide mental health not only to our learners but as well to all our parents so they can be given first hand idea that we should not give up due to this pandemic. We can always hold hands together to give each other supportbyjustlisteningtotheirproblems/anxietyoranyotherfeelingsso they can alleviate whatever they feel so as to our learners. If our learners will be given Psychosocial support, then, they would slowly feel that new normal is the recent trend for now and all will be back on its normal pace once the pandemic has ended. It will help our learners to survive on this pandemic if we show concern to what they feel specially their parents who of course, love them most.
