The Department of Education conducted several surveys to identify which does our parents prefer for the School Year 2020 – 2021. With the use of the Learners Enrolment Survey Form, the parents can choose from the variety of Learning Modalities which their children prefer to. In the earlier month of June, the agency has collected responses from different Division Offices all over the country. It came up that mostly the parents choose Modules as the Learning Modality they prefer for continuing their study this school year. Modules are self-learning made booklet wherein the learning competency that a pupil should achieve or understand are in the lessons. It will be read, understand and self-comprehend by the pupil all by himself. Thus a parent or family member can guide a pupil if it is needed to.

Modules are used for independent learning. DepEd had made the modules that are suited with the K-12’s Most Essential Learning Competencies. With the use of MELCs the k-12 curriculum wasn’t deprived at all. The MELCs are helpful to create modules that will target the essential learnings needed for every grade level of the pupils from Kinder to Grade 12. Modules are made with the help of educators assigned by the admins of DepEd. All of the modules made encompasses the MELCs. Modular learning has always been an answer for distance learning. It is actually one of the Alternative Delivery Modes that is used for some pupils who need to do home schooling at some special cases. This is why modules are chosen to use as learning modality at this time. Modular Learning encourages pupils to be independent learners. The learners will study by themselves the lesson written and will answer the given activities in it. The only challenge that Modular Learning could be are the following. First, the dependent learners that will ask the time and attention of their parents to answer some of the activities simply because they cannot understand the lesson. Probably some factors that can be due to illiteracy. Illiteracy for the learner that cannot comprehend as well as the parent. Second, some parents have no quality time to teach their children. Lastly, if the parents were too busy or has no time to teach their children, therefore they end up doing the modules for their children. These are just some of the challenges that Modular Learning can occur. That is why we highly encourage good communication between the pupil-teacher-parent so they can discuss some lesson that needs attention or hard to understand topics. In this way they can understand the lesson and at some point they would be answering the activities by themselves.

Learning Activity Sheets (LAS) are additional worksheets for better understanding of the topic/lesson aligned in MELCs. The LAS are photocopied activity sheets that will be distributed to learners. It has an Introduction of the Lesson, wherein the lesson will be discussed briefly that can be understood by the pupils. After the brief discussion, there were activities that starts with easy up to challenging ones. It has as well a performance task activity and can be evaluated with the use rubrics. The LAS are accomplished weekly by the pupils. Topics/lesson are given for a week, then another one is introduced as new set to learn within the week. The Modules and LAS will work hand in hand as our way to make the pupils learn the Most Essential Learning Competencies set by the DepEd. With this, learning will continue even there is a pandemic. The Division of Angeles City have started about 3 weeks ago on reproducing the LAS that will be given together with modules coming from the Central Office of DepEd. Surely, each pupils will not miss any opportunity to prosper their learnings in this new normal kind of schooling.
