Work Immersion is to Work Opportunity too!
Julieta D. Santos
Work immersion refers to the part of the SHS curriculum consisting of 80 hours work simulation for the SHS learners be exposed to and become familiar with work-related environment related to their field of specialization to enhance their competence. Specifically, the students are able to gain relevant and practical industrial skills under the guidance of industry experts and workers, appreciate the importance and application of the principles and theories taught in school, enhance their technical knowledge and skills, enrich their skills in communications and human relations, and lastly, to develop good work habits, attitudes, appreciation, and respect for work. This is on purpose of enriching the competencies set by the school guided by the school head, the work immersion coordinator, and the work immersion partner industry supervisor. It is one of the course requirements before a senior high school learner will graduate as it is prerequisite to specialization subjects. It is synonymous with so called on the job training in college level, hence a SHS learner, upon taking the immersion, the opportunity to meet industry people base on the specialization or track of the learner and others. Some “immersants” while taking the immersion class, their honed skills and work attitude is already being observed from the partner industry supervisor. As a result, these performing “immersants” are given the special offer and chance to work with the partner industry to where they are practicing.
