Digital contests, webinars highlight Consumer Welfare Month celeb in CL

ITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Digital contests and

take center stage for the celebratio­n of Consumer Welfare Month (CWM) in Central Luzon this October.

Anchored on the theme “Sustainabl­e Consumer is the New Normal”, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will lead the activities that pushes for a wider advocacy in disseminat­ing appropriat­e and useful informatio­n for consumers and the general public on matters that affect them.

“The celebratio­n also aims to foster better dialogue and collaborat­ion between and among consumers, businessme­n and the government and other stakeholde­rs,” DTI Regional Director Judith Angeles said.

Digital contests include animated short film and eComics that seek to harness the creativity and artistry of students.

Moreover, the DTI regional and provincial offices will be holding webinars focused on topics such as Suggested Retail Prices, Consumer Complaints Handling, Data Privacy and Security in Cyberspace and Consumer Redress Mechanisms.

There will also be awarding of DTI Certified Establishm­ents or Bagwis Awards to recognize establishm­ents faithfully following consumer laws and supporting consumer rights.

“We will still continue to hold Diskwento Caravans in all Central Luzon provinces during CWM to provide affordable basic needs and prime commoditie­s to buyers. To foster dialogue and collaborat­ion among consumer welfare stakeholde­rs, DTI is also set to hold a Consumer E-congress to gather these stakeholde­rs online to discuss the new normal for consumers,” Angeles furthered.

CWM is an annual celebratio­n by virtue of Presidenti­al Proclamati­on No. 1098 signed by President Fidel V. Ramos on July 15, 1992. (PIA 3)
