Technology-based Processes: The New Normal Scheme
Judy Ann Pasco Pagtalunan
It is very easy to teach and train the mind (brain), it has a natural ability to remember, process, and create information. One, can easily reach the top given the right opportunity and intelligence. Indeed, man from generation to another, has continuously surpassed his predecessors. We never stopped moving forward and never stopped dreaming bigger things for humanity and for the world in general. For this reason, man has exploited everything it could get from his God-given ability to create. We have done feats and we have produced things we thought were impossible before. We have gone through space, we have seen things beyond the solar system, we’ve invented medicines to diseases incurable before, we have connected people from all parts of the world. Distance now, seemingly is just a number. We have advanced our technology even far beyond to what we thought we could do before.
Technology has been used as a form of entertainment. Mobile phones, laptops and other gadgets equipped and installed with countless applications have typically became parts of us. It’s never surprising to hear people saying that they cannot live without their phones or without wi-fi. Thus, we cannot deny the fact that we’ve been living with technology even before the pandemic.
We have seen a great shift in the way we communicate with others. As technology continuously developed, we in turn have shortened or even eliminated the barriers for the free flow of information such as distance and differences in our languages. We have created a new world which made everyone connected. Yet, we haven’t really practiced yet and explored ways to use this technology to other matters, such as in education specifically in bringing lessons to your students without really being with them personally. Although, many institutions and countries have started practicing and offering “distance learning” before the pandemic, we really never imagined that this could be a trend, and for some, this could be the only way possible for them to continue with their education.
Covid-19 pandemic, prohibited intimate and close distancing among people. The risk of acquiring and communicating the virus to others is so high that personal interactions in the performance of our work may put everyone’s health to be jeopardized. And, as we all realized, the safest and most accessible means to still perform our duties and responsibilities without being in the workplace personally is only through the use of technology.
Nothing really changed. Our work is just the same anyhow, the expectations set to us are still the same, our standards, and the way we are evaluated. We only had a shift from the traditional face-to-face scheme to the digital world we used to use for our entertainment. Thus, in conclusion, we don’t really need to change everything, but rather just our outlook and perspective.
