Effect of online communication in the workplace
Abigail B. Samaniego
NEVER did we thought that online communication will serve everyone during this time of challenges, when the Department of Education had to come up with strategies to continue the education of the country’s millions of learners.
It is not just the learners who benefit from online communication, but the millions of workers who have to grapple with changes in the workplace ever since the lockdowns struck.
Now, almost everyone uses online communication as a real-time communication tool. Gone are the days when you have to wake up early to beat the traffic and make it to a meeting on time. These days, there are Zoom meetings left and right.
This now is the new normal, which we have to accept and embrace, lest we be left behind by the times.
Online communications systems allow people to connect in real time, irrespective of their locations and time zones. We can even say that “being online” has become beneficial to all of us. Just imagine the benefits: It is cost effective compared to a physical meeting, as a gadget and internet connectivity would suffice – unlike physical meetings where one would have to spare time, money to travel, other costs and most importantly – stamina and energy.
With technological advancements in our midst, we can communicate online via computers or mobile phones, thus increasing efficiency. This means there is ease of communication and smooth flow of information between employees working at different levels. Decisions are made faster and executed on-time.
As over the years, communication is one of the most important factors to the success of an organization. Today, online workplace communication can influence job performance.
