Efforts to Student Success
Leslie D. Pasion
What are the factors that influence student success in school and life? Are the grades and test scores sufficient to measure success?
Efforts should be made to engage the school and make it a place for students to prepare for the future.
School leaders should create a positive learning environment for students. The school must be engaging and create hope for the future. It should encourage talent and prepare students to make a difference in society by landing a good job in the future.
According to surveys, engaged students are excited about what's going on in their school and what they're learning. Because they contribute to the learning environment, they are emotionally linked to their school. They deliver better or desirable outcomes, such as better academic performance and less absenteeism.
A school that creates hope is one that ensures student success. Hopeful students are goal-oriented and positive about the future. They can achieve their goals because they can overcome barriers in the learning process. When they get to do what they're doing, it drives the perception of success.
Schools should be able to produce students who are an entrepreneurial aspiration, or the talent and energy needed to build a business. It would do well to identify and nurture the entrepreneurial talent of students, so that they can be empowered to sustain economic energy.
While traditional measures clarify areas of proficiency and areas of weakness, a school should have a balanced framework of success that will help inspire positive learning environments and give students a chance to practice what they do best and pave the way for a great life.
"Be successful students learn all you can from those who have been the most successful."
