Jump – start: How to Get and Stay Motivated

-

According to James Clear motivation is a powerful, yet tricky beast. Sometimes it is really easy to get motivated, and you find yourself wrapped up in a whirlwind of excitement. Other times, it is nearly impossible to figure out how to motivate yourself and you're trapped in a death spiral of procrastination.

As a teacher this time of pandemic is pretty much harder than it was before because of the tons of work that were tasked to us. It is very easy for us to procrastinate because we don’t even know on what to do first. Furthermore, other related factors lead us in not doing our work especially because we are at home it feels like we are in the other dimension so how can we get and stay motivated in this current situation?

First, consider that in this time of difficulty it is a good idea that a teacher should make everything that she does as a habit and think that the friction of the task is always at the beginning and a good start is always the first thing to consider. In other words, think that the hardest part is in the beginning of the task so that progress may occur naturally.

Next, an educator needs to stop waiting for motivation or inspiration to strike but instead setting a schedule for oneself seems simple, but it puts decision-making on autopilot by giving one’s goals a time and a place to live. It makes it more likely that he/she will follow through regardless of your motivation levels

Then, think that the task is manageable not too hard not too easy but just right in this manner you will be able to find a way to pull your tasks back to the border of your abilities where you feel challenged, but capable.

Finally, measure everything you do to keep on the right track. You need to you get immediate feedback about how you are doing at each step because measurement is a key factor in motivation.

To sum it up, this I think is the essence of motivation. Every choice has a price, but when we are motivated, it is easier to bear the inconvenience of action than the pain of remaining the same. Always bear in mind that life is good and your discomfort is temporary we just need to step into this moment of discomfort and let it strengthen you as they say you will never regret a good work once it is done.
