Criselda C. Liscano
As the school year has formally opened on October 5, teachers are still busy preparing the students’ learning materials to be distributed to their learners. As teachers gear in the new normal in education, the real passion and compassion will be seen in their efforts in dealing with the new-normal set up in this Covid-19 pandemic. This situation allows educators to flip the negatives into positives. It becomes another way to learn something new and think outside the box, get out of the comfort zone and discover the best – not only for professional and personal growth but also for the betterment of the learners.
Teachers fully extend their hands and widely-open their hearts as they embrace the new-normal in education set-up. The genuine efforts of teachers display their passion, compassion, dedication and love to their learners. That even this covid-19 pandemic will not hinder the eagerness of teachers to instill knowledge, skills and values.
This is the time where lengthy discussions are no longer applicable in the online classes, that teaching strategies from the normal situations are cannot be copied and pasted in the digital set-up, and active participation of the students may go down because of a lot of factors might affect learner’s performance. Learners’ attention may be divided into varied learning areas with corresponding activities.
Teachers’ roles don’t stop in just identifying the conflicts, rather make solutions on the circumstances. Teachers like us make innovative teaching strategies for our learners to learn best especially in this time of pandemic. Legitimate online platforms and tools may be used and may be incorporated with various activities that will make learning more exciting and more fun.
Teachers like us also design supplementary materials that may be available in synchronous and asynchronous learning for the continuous learning engagement of learners which may be applicable in any available modality that a learner has. The mastery of content and the application of skills in the real life situation is a sign that learning took place. Educators ensure that no learners will be left behind. Education must not stop despite of the pandemic. Learning doesn’t always happen in the four-corners of the classrooms, everyone can learn anywhere and anytime.
