Strategies for Teaching and Learning
Romeo M. Gonzales
Being a teacher means being able to make learning dynamic and engaging to students of different backgrounds. As teachers of the digital age, we need to make learning more interactive by integrating technology in the learning experience of our students. This process isn’t as easy as it seems; different strategies must be applied to ensure that students perform better.
Visualization is a strategy that involves helping students experience practical learning, for them to understand how to navigate real life situations. It’s about breathing life to concepts and making use of appropriate audio and videos to encourage students. Another strategy is Cooperative learning, where students work together to solve problems and/or conduct experiments. This method lets the students develop their confidence and their ability to work well and communicate with others.
There is also Differentiated Instruction, in which all learners are given the support they need in the form of allocated tasks based on their abilities. By applying this strategy, the learning needs of the students are met and they can improve on their own pace. Of course, the strategy that is widely-used is Behavior Management; implementing an atmosphere of respect in the classroom. This ensures that a conducive environment is secured for the students.
Strategies in teaching and learning exist in many forms. Every student is unique, that is why it is important to know what strategy to apply every time. A teacher delivers the learning content needed by the students in many ways so they can build an educational path for themselves.
